Shreveport Motorcyclist Dies in High Speed Crash
On Tuesday, Shreveport Police were called out to the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Russell Road to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
When Police showed up on the scene the found a man unconscious in the road suffering a head injury. A Shreveport City Marshal and a worker at a nearby daycare were performing CPR on Philip Ernest Miller. The Shreveport Fire Department were called in and Miller was transported to the hospital.
After an investigation by the Shreveport Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit, Police were able to determine that Miller was going at a high rate of speed on MLK Drive, and laid the bike over while trying to take a curve.
Miller was wearing a full-face helmet, but he did not have his chin-strap secured. This caused the helmet to come off when Miller hit the concrete, leading to serious head and body injuries.
Mr. Miller unfortunately died from his injuries later that night.
SPD wants to stress the importance of proper safety practices when riding a motorcycle.
From SPD:
"This incident marks the 23rd fatal crash in Caddo Parish this year, currently the highest in the state of Louisiana. The Shreveport Police Department extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Miller’s family and reminds all motorists of the importance of wearing and properly securing safety gear."
