Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux was attending the Shreveport City Council meeting on Tuesday when he began coughing enough to where he had to leave the meeting. Fire Department personnel were in the lobby and administered care.

The mayor was then transported to the hospital for treatment of bacterial pneumonia.

Mayor Arceneaux told KEEL News from his hospital room on Wednesday "I'm doing very well and hoped to go home today."

  Arceneaux also said:

“I had hoped to continue working through my illness in order to attend Tuesday’s City Council meeting,” said Mayor Arceneaux. “However, after developing a fever, my physicians recommended a short hospital stay for observation and recovery.”

Mayor Arceneaux reported that he has responded exceptionally well to the treatment he has received. His doctors are encouraged by his progress but have advised that he take additional time to rest and fully recover before returning to his normal schedule.

“I’m deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the people of Shreveport. Your encouragement means more to me than I can express, and it’s been a great source of strength as I recover.”

“I look forward to returning to the office soon and continuing our work on behalf of the people of Shreveport,” the Mayor said.
