MARDI GRAS UPDATE: The Captain of the Krewe of Oceanus sent out a statement today clarifying our story about the dissolution of the Krewe:
While no longer a member of the NWLA Mardi Gras Association, the Krewe of Oceanus Ark-La-Tex has not dissolved and will continue krewe activities. There are several krewes in the region who operate independently from the Association. The Krewe will continue to focus on community and family-oriented activities such as our Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 13th from 2 to 4 pm at 359 W. Bert Kouns Loop.
KEEL news has also learned the Krewe is still planning to host a parade next year, but details are still being worked out.
ORIGINAL STORY:
SHREVEPORT, LA - Mardi Gras for 2025 is over in Shreveport Bossier, but a big change is coming for 2026. One Mardi Gras Krewe in the area has been dissolved because of ongoing problems.
The Captains Council of all of Shreveport's Mardi Gras Krewes has made a decision to cut ties with one Krewe.
KEEL News has learned the Krewe of Oceanus has been found to have violated 2 bylaws of the Krewes more than once.

We have learned this decision is focused on actions that are "unbecoming to the association".

The Krewe of Oceanus is the newest Krewe in the area and it was formed in 2020 by residents of Southern Hills. The Krewe hoped to be able to roll through the neighborhood, but that plan was not approved by the city. The parade has been held around Mall St. Vincent.

Details About the Krewe of Oceanus:

The Krewe's website says the group "prides itself in being one of two NWLA Krewes in which very young children can serve as Royalty. The Krewe attends many events some of which Princes and Princesses may attend but we also hold many events as well."
There are more than a dozen Krewes in the Shreveport area. All of them are run by a group called the Captains Council. This oversight group sets the dates for the parades and the balls. The Captains of each Krewe serve on this oversight body which meets quarterly. The decision to pull the plug on the Krewe of Oceanus was made during the latest quarterly meeting.

KEEL got this statement from Johann Cooke Sr the Captain Of Captains:

The NWLA Mardi Gras Association takes no pleasure in the decision to remove the Krewe of Oceanus from the Association. Unfortunately after several attempts to assist them, the Krewe of Oceanus was unable to adhere to and operate within/under the rules and regulations set forth by the Association.
