
Shreveport Man Found Guilty of Manslaughter in Caddo Court
A Shreveport man was found guilty in Caddo Court after shooting a man in the neck and killing him.
25 year-old SirEldrick Hays saw Xavier Griffin showing his new rifle to some people at the Lakeside Garden Apartments back in March of 2021. Griffin Fired a round in to the air from the rifle, and started to head back to his apartment. Hays cut Griffin off and demanded the rifle. When Griffin said no, Hays made a grab for the rifle causing a fight over the gun.
Hays pulled a handgun during the fight, and shot griffin in the neck. Griffin died at the scene as Hays was running away with both guns.
Police said there were very few witnesses willing to cooperate in the investigation, but camera footage two different shell casings. The footage shows Griffin and Hays walking through the complex and the struggle for the gun. Hays was identified through a Crime Stoppers lineup.
From the Caddo DA:
"It took a seven-man, five-woman jury in District Judge Chris Victory's court an hour to find SirElderick Hays guilty as charged of armed robbery and felon in possession of a weapon, and responsively guilty of manslaughter. Hays was convicted of simple robbery in 2017, a felony that prevents him from owning or possessing a firearm."
Hays will be getting sentenced in April where he is looking at a total of 159 years in prison. 40 for the manslaughter alone, and the rest are from several charges that led up to the manslaughter.
