Shreveport Man Arrested for 5th Street Murder

Detectives have jailed a man following a north Shreveport shooting that left a man dead.

On January 19, 2024, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a shooting in the 2900 block of 5th Street. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Patrol officers detained the suspect and called for investigators.

Detectives with the Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Units were arrived and launched their investigation. CSIU collected evidence and detectives interviewed multiple witnesses and the suspect, John Landers (2-1-1978). Investigators learned that the victim and suspect knew each other and engaged in a verbal argument that reportedly led to Landers shooting and killing the victim.

Landers was transported to the Shreveport Police Complex for questioning. Following interviews with investigators, he was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of Second-Degree Murder. The investigation is ongoing.
