A man wanted for multiple juvenile sex crime offenses has been apprehended out of state following a thorough investigation by the Shreveport Police Department.

The incident occurred at a residence on 256 Wedgewood Dr., Shreveport, LA, during the evening of November 16, 2024, and into the early morning hours of November 17, 2024. The victim, a 15-year-old female, was observed by her mother to have visible injuries, including bruising on her face and both eyes, marks around her neck consistent with strangulation, and bruising on her left-side rib area. (later found to be broken ribs) The victim disclosed that the injuries were inflicted by her boyfriend, Michael Gaines (DOB: 08/31/2001).

The victim’s mother reported the incident to law enforcement on November 21, 2024, after discovering that her daughter had been hiding in her room all weekend. Initially, the victim believed Gaines to be 18 years old; however, it was revealed that he is actually 23 years of age.

Officers proceeded to the residence of Michael Gaines at 1402 Audubon Place. Upon arrival, they encountered his father, Raymond Gaines, attempting to leave the property. When officers attempted to question him about his son, Raymond Gaines refused to cooperate or identify himself, resulting in his arrest for resisting an officer.

On December 9, 2024, warrants were issued for Michael Gaines on the charges of Battery of a Dating Partner with Strangulation and Battery of a Dating Partner with serious bodily injuries. A subsequent investigation by the Shreveport Police Department’s Special Response Team uncovered information connecting Gaines to a location in Michigan.

Through collaboration with local Michigan authorities, Gaines was apprehended and is currently in custody. This is an outstanding job that showcases the teamwork between Shreveport Police Patrol, Detectives, and office special investigation.

Detectives continued to gather more information leading them to determine that multiple sex crimes against a juvenile had occurred. Gaines faces extradition to Shreveport, where he will also be charged with Pornography involving juveniles, indecent behavior with a juvenile, computer-aided solicitation, and Felony Carnal Knowledge of a juvenile.

The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to seeking justice for victims of domestic violence and sexual crimes. Anyone with further information related to this case is urged to contact the Shreveport Police Department at (318) 673-7300 or Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
