Shreveport High-Speed Chase Leads to Crash & Arrest
SHREVEPORT, LA- Arrest Made in Aggravated Flight from Officers
On the night of September 8th, around 11:00 p.m., Shreveport Police Patrol officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Jewella Street and Cleveland Street. The driver of the vehicle refused to comply, prompting officers to pursue the vehicle as it fled through the Mooretown neighborhood.
The suspect led officers on a pursuit, during which multiple traffic violations were committed, including running several stop signs and red lights. The chase culminated when the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Ockley Drive and East Kings Highway.
Despite repeated commands to surrender, the driver, identified as 28-year-old Darren Dawson, refused to exit the vehicle with his hands up. Officers deployed a Police K9 in an attempt to apprehend Dawson, but he resisted the K9's efforts. After a brief struggle, Dawson was taken into custody.
Dawson has been charged with multiple offenses, including Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, Resisting an Officer, Open Container of Alcohol in a Vehicle, Careless Operation, and No Driver's License.
The Shreveport Police Department commends the responding officers for their swift and professional actions in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion.
