Shreveport Man Arrested for Guns and Drugs After Traffic Stop
A simple traffic stop yields a big bust for Shreveport PD.
On Friday night Police saw a car make an abrupt turn without using a signal. When they got behind the car they noticed the license wasn't displayed correctly.
After they got the car to stop, they got everyone out of the car to detain them for safety. That's when SPD smelled marijuana in the car. After a search they found a backpack with several bags of weed and edibles, as well as a digital scale and bags used for selling drugs.
While searching the rest of the car, SPD found what Police describe as "two AR-style pistols" under the passenger seat. While looking at the guns, SPD realized one of them had been modified to switch to automatic, making it a machine gun.
After finding the drugs and guns Joseph Thomas was arrested on these charges:
· Illegal carrying of a weapon
· Possession of a machine gun
· Illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile
· Distribution of narcotics
A message from SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community by actively enforcing laws related to illegal firearms and narcotics distribution."
