Shreveport Firefighters Respond to Early-Morning Blaze
On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 3:40 AM, the Shreveport Fire Department (SFD) received a 911 call reporting a house on fire in the 400 block of West 69th Street. The first SFD unit arrived on scene within five minutes and discovered heavy smoke coming from the rear of a one-story house.
Once inside, firefighters successfully located and extinguished a fire in the back bedroom. All occupants that were home at the time of the fire successfully escaped outside. No injuries to citizens or firefighters were reported.
It took the efforts of twenty-one (21) firefighters operating eight (8) units to bring the fire under control at 4:00 AM. The full extent of the damage and official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
On average, a person has less than two minutes to escape from a burning house. Having a working smoke alarm and a fire escape plan, which has been practiced by everyone inside the home, is essential for life safety. Part of a fire escape plan is having a minimum of two accessible ways out of the house.
Ensure pathways to exits are kept clear of objects which could impede and slow down your escape. For more fire safety tips, contact Shreveport Fire Prevention at 318-673-6740 or visit www.shreveportfire.org.
