You've seen all the stories. The Shreveport Police Department have been working hard to get stolen and illegally possessed guns off our streets and out of the hands of felons.

These operations have netted over 300 guns since January (2023). These efforts by SPD have been essential in furthering crime abatement in Shreveport. On Monday, yet another gun was discovered to be in the hands of a felon.

On May 15th, 2023, around 5:00 p.m. Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Abatement team members conducted a search warrant in the 7100 block of Brandtway Street. Detectives found that Tyrone Thomas (1-30-99) was in possession of a firearm.

Further investigation into the matter revealed that Thomas was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to being a convicted felon for prior felony offenses.

Thomas was arrested for one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. This investigation is on-going.

We are required to advise that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
