Shreveport Man Arrested For Shocking Domestic Violence Incident

Shreveport Police Department Domestic Violence Unit have arrested a man who was wanted in connection with a violent domestic incident.

Jernigan was arrested for the following charges:

-Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment

-Domestic Abuse Battery by Strangulation

-Domestic Abuse Battery with a Pregnant Victim

The investigation began after officers responded to a domestic violence incident involving Deuteronomi Jernigan and an adult female victim. During the investigation, officers learned a two-year-old child was present during the altercation.

The child was exposed to the violence and Jernigan allegedly wrapped his hands around the female victim’s neck, causing her to gag due to the force applied.

Detectives also reviewed video from inside the home that reportedly depicted an extremely violent encounter in which Jernigan struck the victim multiple times. The video further showed him going outside, removing a child’s car seat from a vehicle, and striking the victim in the face again.

Responding Officers saw visible injuries on the victim. Detectives also confirmed the victim was approximately six months pregnant at the time.

SPD Officers were able to catch Jernigan after he was involved in a car accident in Shreveport. He was arrested and booked in to the Shreveport City Jail last week.
