Shreveport Police responded to a domestic incident involving a firearm that placed an adult victim and young child in danger.

The victim reported she went to Cherokee Park to pick up Darren Jett. When she got to the park, she could see that Jett was very intoxicated. While in the car, an argument ensued regarding his level of intoxication. The victim then took Jett to his grandmother’s house on Murvon Street.

The victim removed Jett’s belongings from the vehicle and placed them on the curb. Jett refused to leave the vehicle. The victim told SPD that Jett pulled a gun while still inside the car and threatened to shoot her.

The victim’s 4 year-old son was also inside the vehicle when Jett pulled the gun. During the confrontation, the child left the vehicle and ran across the street, nearly being struck by a passing car.

A witness on scene reported hearing two gunshots and observed the child running across the roadway immediately afterward. The victim told Police that Jett discharged two rounds into the air. Officers recovered one spent shell casing from the front yard of the residence.

Responding officers located and arrested Darren Jett. He has been charged with:

· Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

· Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault with Child Endangerment

· Resisting an Officer

· Illegal Use of Weapons – Dangerous Instrumentalities

· Illegal Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle

This incident shows the danger that domestic violence situations can pose, especially when guns are involved.
