Shreveport Man Arrested in Cruelty to a Juvenile Case
Yesterday, Shreveport Police were called about a child in distress on Abbie Street.
When SPD got to the scene, a person on the scene told them that an 8 Year-old girl came to their home saying that her father had kicked her out of the home. The child went on to tell this person that her father had pulled her hair and hit her before forcing her outside. They told Police that the child had visible injuries.
Detectives with SPD were immediately notified of the situation and arrived on scene. Officers were able to locate the child's home and made contact with her father, Kevin Hatcher.
Hatcher was immediately detained, and Officers noted that he was visibly intoxicated. Hatcher, smelling heavily of alcohol, told police that he was sleeping when they arrived.
Following the investigation, Hatcher was arrested and charged with one count of Cruelty to a Juvenile. The investigation is ongoing.
From SPD:
Chief Smith emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the community:
“The safety of our children is a top priority. We are thankful for the quick actions of the citizen who reported this incident and for the prompt response by our officers and detectives.”
