Crawfish Season Kicks off With Mixed Quality and High Prices

Who has the best crawfish prices in Shreveport? I am already starting to crave crawfish and a few spots in the Shreveport area have crawfish ready to go. But I'm told they are small and not quite as good as we are accustomed to around these parts.

And the price for boiled mudbugs is pretty high right now. We checked the prices for several of the best spots around Shreveport-Bossier and found the lowest prices so far at Kim's Seafood in Bossier. They have posted a prices of $10.99 a pound. Almost all of the other favorite spots are selling crawfish for $12.99 a pound. We did find Beauxjax Craft House selling mudbugs for $11.95 a pound. If you are set to buy some bugs at Kim's, give them a call ahead of time to make sure they have some available.

How Many Spots Have Crawfish Available

We check about 20 of the top spots in northwest Louisiana and found about five of them have boiled crawfish for sale. The rest of the big crawfish vendors expect to have crawfish rolling in in a couple of weeks. South Louisiana restaurants are already seeing a pretty good supply.

What Does the Crawfish Season for 2026 Look Like

Crawfish are big business in Louisiana. In a 'normal year', Louisiana crawfish farmers will supply more than 150 million pounds of crawfish which brings an estimated $300 million to the state economy. But heat and a drought in 2024 hit hard. The crawfish farmers are hoping to see a bounce back again this year. The warmer weather we have been experiencing should be a big help.

When Will Crawfish Prices Start to Drop in Louisiana?

January and February will most likely see the highest prices of the year. But once we get to March, we should see prices dip below $10 a pound and later in the spring you will be able to find plenty of crawfish back in the $3-$6 range.
