Shreveport Police Arrest Two After Crashing Stolen Car
Last week Shreveport Police stopped a car that matched the description of a stolen Corvette.
The car stopped for SPD, and showed the driver, DeQuinton Pye a picture of the stolen car and Pye said "That looks just like this one!". Police told Pye that they needed to check the VIN number on the car to make sure it didn't match the stolen car's.
When Police requested to see the VIN, Pye and his passenger Dementa Bell, started acting suspicious. The two began acting out demanding a supervisor which the Officers on the scene allowed Pye to talk to one on the phone. They were complaining that they had a dinner reservation and were demanding to be compensated for their missed reservation.
SPD controlled the situation and were eventually able to get the VIN and confirm that the car was stolen. When Pye realized that the Officers knew the car was stolen, he hit the gas and took-off at high speed. He was able to drive for a short time before he crashed in to a telephone pole, completely totaling the car.
Bell tried to run away toward the airport, but was caught by SPD. Pye had to be taken to the hospital because he got a nasty cut on his leg during the crash. He got medical attention and was taken to jail.
Pye was charged with:
· Aggravated flight from an officer
· Illegal possession of a stolen vehicle
· Violation of a protective order
· Switched license plates
· Traffic violations
Bell was charged with:
· Resisting an officer
· Interfering with a law enforcement investigation
Both suspects were booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
