Shreveport Child Shot At Apartment Complex
The Shreveport Police Department responded to a shooting call in the 1900 block of Patzman Street on May 16th. The call came in just after 7:30pm and was centered around the Canaan Village Apartments in the Allendale neighborhood.
When officers arrived, they found a 5-year-old child who had been shot during a gun battle. The child was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport in serious condition. Some reports say the bullets went into the child's apartment and struck the child in the leg.
Authorities say a gun battle started outside the apartment complex. One of the stray bullets from that struck the child. While another bullet from the shooting entered the apartment of a 90-year-old couple, who were inside the apartment at the time.
There have now been at least 22 children and teenagers who have been shot in Shreveport since the start of 2021. Which is less than 18 months, meaning the city is averaging at least one child or teenager shot every month since January 1st, 2021.
