Shreveport Man Facing Several Charges Following High-Speed Chase
Shreveport Police attempted to pull-over a Nissan Maxima on January 24th, when the car sped off. As SPD chased the suspect, he started driving at high speeds down Broadway weaving in-and-out of traffic putting other cars between him and the Police.
The suspect then turned on to Baxter Street form Broadway. Eventually the car lost control and hit a fire hydrant at the intersection of Baxter and Kennedy Drive.
The driver, Lamarquez Harris (28) jumped out of the wrecked car and took off on foot. Harris jumped fences and ran through several back yards. Police were able to catch up to Harris and put him in handcuffs.
SPD returned to the vehicle to search for the possible reason why Harris ran from them.
Officers recovered these items from the Vehicle:
· A black pistol found on the driver’s seat
· A large clear plastic bag containing approximately 380 grams of suspected marijuana
· Three smaller clear plastic baggies containing suspected marijuana
· A digital scale
· Multiple plastic baggies commonly used for narcotics distribution
SPD ran a check on his record showing that Harris is a convicted felon. The investigation also showed that Harris had no valid drivers license or insurance for the car.
Harris has been charged with several serious crimes:
· Criminal property damage
· Distribution of a Schedule I narcotic
· Felon in possession of a firearm
· Illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance
· Resisting an officer
· Multiple traffic violations
Big thanks to the Shreveport Police Department for getting this potentially dangerous suspect off the streets.
