Shreveport Firefighters Battle West Bert Kouns Brush Fire

Yesterday, the Shreveport Fire Department were called out to a large brush fire on West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.

SFD arrived on the scene, and due to the size of the fire, they requested additional Engines, water supplies, and a brush truck due to the location of the fire from the roadway.

Wind condition and the flat surface of the land cased the fire to spread very quickly. SFD requested the help of brush trucks and and water tankers from Caddo Fire Districts 3 and 4. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry was also brought in to provide bulldozers to make fire-breaks to keep the flames from spreading.

SWEPCO was also called due to the presence of nearby power lines.

No firefighters or the public were hurt and no damage to structures occurred. An estimated 10 acres were involved in the fire and the cause remains unknown at this time.

"It took the efforts of approximately twelve (12) SFD firefighters operating five (5) units, along with personnel and units from Caddo Parish Fire Districts 3 and 4 and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, to bring the fire under full containment at 2:58 pm.

Conditions remain dry in certain areas. While there is no parish-wide burn ban currently in effect, the public is urged to use caution with their outdoor activities and actions. It only takes a small spark, ember, or hot object like a lit cigarette to cause a large fire. And remember, all outdoor burning is prohibited inside the city limits of Shreveport per city ordinance."
