Shreveport Man Arrested for Battery of a Dating Partner

Shreveport Police arrested a man following a reported domestic violence incident late last week.

SPD Officers received multiple calls reporting that a man and woman were fighting in the roadway near Gilbert Drive and Olive Street. A concerned citizen reportedly asked whether assistance was needed, and someone answered, “Yes.”

Less than an hour later, the victim called police from the Circle K on Kings Highway. Investigators determined that Jerry Lee Carter battered the victim, took her purse and other belongings, and prevented her from calling 911 by taking her phone.

Officers later were able to find Carter sitting inside a vehicle in the on Wilkinson Street. Carter refused repeated commands to get out of the vehicle despite SPD Officers and family members asking him to surrender peacefully.

After using a Taser was ineffective and Carter moved farther into the vehicle, causing officers to lose sight of his hands, a K-9 Officer was deployed. Carter was taken out of the vehicle and was arrested. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Carter has been charged with:

· Battery of a Dating Partner, First Offense

· Purse Snatching

· Interfering with Emergency Communication

· Resisting an Officer

· In-State Fugitive

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
