Shreveport Man Facing 20 Years for Battery of a Nurse
A Shreveport man who battered and seriously injured a nurse while incarcerated at Caddo Correctional Center faces at least 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in Caddo District Court.
Chester Lee Johnson Jr., 32, was convicted of felony battery of a correctional facility employee by a five-woman, one-man jury in District Judge Ramona Emanuel's court Thursday, August 8, 2024, after under 30 minutes of deliberation. Johnson's criminal history subjects him to sentencing under a multiple offender bill to be filed August 14. His sentencing date will be set then, to be later this month or in early September.
The jury heard testimony that on February 16, 2020, while housed at Caddo Correctional Center, Johnson battered a nurse employed by Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office. The nurse went to provide medication to Johnson, when Johnson exited his dorm and began striking the nurse multiple times with a closed fist. The nurse was transported to a medical facility where he received stitches to his forehead.
Johnson was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Senae D. Hall and Victoria Washington. He was defended by Royal Alexander and Dave Knadler.
The case was docket No. 374229.
