
Shreveport Police Discover Automatic Weapon During Traffic Stop
Shreveport Police have arrested Jamil Brooks, 20, following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of an illegal firearm and other drug and traffic offences.
The arrest occurred on January 23, 2025, just after 8:00 PM in the 5800 block of Lynwood Avenue. Officers conducting the traffic stop determined that Brooks was operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license and was in possession of marijuana.
Further investigation revealed that Brooks was in possession of a firearm that had been illegally modified to function as a fully automatic weapon. Possession of such a weapon is a violation of both state and federal law.
Brooks has been charged with the following:
· Illegal Possession of a Machine Gun
· Possession of Marijuana
· Various Traffic Offenses
The Shreveport Police Department commends the alert patrol officers involved in this case for their outstanding work with the Violent Crimes Abatement team in removing an illegal firearm from our streets and enhancing community safety.
