A man who shot and severely wounded a friend of his last year has be sentenced to prison in Caddo Court.

The Victim of the shooting, Tauris Willis, was sitting in his car in the Cherokee Park neighborhood, when he was approached by a masked man. Once the man had Willis' attention, he removed the mask, revealing his identity as 44 year-old Derrick Deone Morris.

Morris told Willis, "I told you I was going to get you!" before shooting Willis three times. Both Willis' legs were shot, and Morris' final shot grazed his head. Willis was able to identify his attacker as his lifelong friend Derrick Morris to police.

Morris was found guilty of this attempted manslaughter offence, and was sentenced in Caddo Court to 40 years behind bars. He was sentenced as a second-felony habitual offender, and received the maximum sentence to be served at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.

From the Caddo DA:

"Morris was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Courtney N. Ray and Sean R. Fore. He was defended by Rickey Swift.

The case was docket No. 405929."
