
Shreveport Man Arrested for Assaulting City Tree Trimmer
Shreveport Police Department responded to Curtis Lane in reference to an assault and battery call involving a city-contracted tree trimming crew.
When SPD got to the scene, they learned that a tree service company contracted through the City of Shreveport was working to clear overgrown trees from around power line. The victim was working from an elevated bucket truck trimming trees near utility lines when Vondrick Cawthorn allegedly became upset and demanded the work stop.
Witnesses told SPD that Cawthorn grabbed the worker while he was elevated in the bucket, put him in a headlock, and pulled him from the area. Investigators also learned that Cawthorn grabbed a three foot wooden board and hit the victim several times.
When Officers attempted to take Cawthorn into custody, he allegedly resisted and fought with officers on scene. Officers were eventually able to safely place him under arrest.
Vondrick Cawthorn was charged with:
• Aggravated Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
• Battery of a Police Officer
• Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence
The investigation remains ongoing.
