Shreveport Man Arrested Following a Domestic Shooting
Just after 2am yesterday, Shreveport Police got a call about a domestic disturbance on East 71st Street. According to the caller, a man and woman were arguing over a 4 year-old child.
When Police got to the scene, SPD Officers spoke with a woman who claimed the child's father, Jonathan Monroe, shot a gun during the dispute and left in a U-Haul truck.
Not long after Police talked with the woman, Monroe called the Police saying that he was nearby, but said he knew nothing about the U-Haul truck or the gun. Police found Monroe where he said he would be, and Police did not find a gun on him.
Not long after SPD found Monroe, the found a U-Haul that had some of Monroe's clothes, as well as a gun that seemed to have been fired recently.
Police continued to interview Monroe, as well as other witnesses, and determined that Monroe was in-fact just driving that particular U-Haul. Monroe eventually confessed to shooting the gun.
During the investigation, SPD found out that Monroe is a convicted felon and is not suppose to have a gun. Monroe pled guilty to domestic abuse battery with serious bodily injury in 2021 and to possession of a firearm by a felon in 2023. The victim in this case also has an active protective order against him.
Monroe was arrested and charged with the following:
· Violation of a Protective Order
· Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
· Illegal Use of a Weapon
From SPD:
"Thanks to the swift and thorough work of our patrol officers, this case was resolved quickly, and no injuries were reported."
