On January 17, 2025, at approximately 3:24 AM, Shreveport Police Department officers observed a vehicle improperly displaying a license plate. As officers initiated a traffic stop, the driver accelerated and engaged in evasive maneuvers, resulting in a high-speed pursuit through city streets.

During the pursuit, the suspect violated multiple traffic laws, including:

· Running multiple stop signs and traffic lights,

· Driving at speeds of 60 mph in a 25 mph zone,

· Driving into the opposite lane toward oncoming traffic.

While fleeing, a black bag was thrown from the vehicle's passenger window. Upon recovery, officers found the bag contained:

· A heavily altered pistol with an obliterated serial number,

· A glass pipe with suspected narcotic residue.

The chase ended when the driver abandoned the vehicle at 4100 Barbara Drive, leaving it in gear and rolling northbound. The suspect fled on foot, attempting to climb a barbed-wire fence. Officers deployed a T10 Taser to prevent escape and successfully apprehended the suspect.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed:

· Suspected methamphetamine,

· Suspected crack cocaine,

· A small black scale and plastic bags consistent with narcotics distribution.

The suspect, identified as Jerome Mayes, was found to have prior felony convictions and

outstanding warrants in Shreveport for multiple traffic violations. He was transported to LSU for medical treatment and later booked into the Shreveport City Jail.

Mayes now faces the following charges:

· Aggravated Flight from an Officer

· Resisting an Officer

· Improper Display of Tags

· No Insurance

· Obstruction of Justice

· Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway

· Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon

· Possession of Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number

· Possession of Schedule I Narcotics

· Possession of Schedule II Narcotics

The vehicle, which was uninsured, was impounded.

Shreveport Police commend the officers involved for their quick thinking and effective action, ensuring public safety during this dangerous incident.
