Last week, Shreveport Police got a call from the Royal Inn on North Market Street. SPD's Youth Service Bureau were contacted, and when Police showed up to the motel and found that a 15 year-old had been staying in a room with no supervision for two weeks.

Officers found the room to be in horrible condition, and the child's hygiene had not been attended to. The child told Police that her mom Angela Herring left the hotel saying "I love you. Be back soon." and never came back. The juvenile admitted that she had not bathed in two weeks, but was able to find food on her own.

The child went on to say that she hadn't even attended school in three years. When SPD asked about the child's father Carrey Herring, and she told them that he had been banned from the property. This was backed up by hotel employees.

SPD had this to say about the investigation and arrest of the parents:

"Child Protective Services (CPS) was immediately notified, and an emergency Gingerbread assessment and drug screening were conducted. On April 2, 2025, detectives with the Youth Services Bureau obtained arrest warrants for both Angela and Carey Herring on charges of Improper Supervision of a Juvenile and Criminal Neglect of Family.

Both individuals were taken into custody shortly thereafter and are currently booked at the Caddo Correctional Center. This incident remains under investigation."
