The Shreveport Police Department continues its efforts to make our community safer by targeting illegal firearms. Last week, officers conducted successful operations resulting in multiple arrests and the recovery of stolen or illegally possessed firearms.

Incident 1: On December 19, 2024, at approximately 5:01 PM, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Leslie Street. During the stop, officers made contact with DeTravon Taylor, 24 years old, and discovered he was in possession of a firearm and narcotics. Taylor was arrested and charged with carrying a weapon, distribution of narcotics, and multiple traffic offenses.

Incident 2: On December 20, 2024, at approximately 1:30 AM, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving without headlights near McCord Circle and Curtis Street. The driver, identified as Lee Myles II, was found in possession of a stolen firearm. The weapon had been reported stolen by the Houston Police Department. Myles was arrested and charged with possessing a stolen handgun.

Incident 3: Later that day, during direct patrol operations officers stopped a vehicle traveling eastbound on Hollywood Avenue. The driver, identified as 17-year-old Keyvozea Washington, was found in possession of a firearm. Not only is Washington prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his age, but the weapon was also reported stolen on December 15, 2024. He was arrested and charged with juvenile possession of a handgun, possession of a stolen handgun, and multiple traffic offenses.

In each of these incidents, the recovered firearms were seized and will be destroyed upon the resolution of the cases.

The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to reducing gun violence and removing illegally possessed firearms from our streets. These efforts reflect our ongoing dedication to keeping our community safe.
