Shreveport Fire Department Fight Another Abandoned Apartment Fire

On Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 6:11 AM, the Shreveport Fire Department (SFD) received a 911 call reporting an apartment building on fire in the 1900 block of Centenary Boulevard.

Engine 5 arrived on scene within four (4) minutes and reported flames coming from a downstairs apartment unit of a two-story residential structure. It required the efforts of thirty-one (31) firefighters operating twelve (12) units to contain the fire to a single building and bring the incident under control at 6:27 AM.

Firefighters had to make use of chainsaws to ventilate the heat and smoke out of the roof of the structure. Fortunately, no injuries to any firefighters or citizens were reported. What used to be known as the Oak Meadows Apartments, this property is now abandoned and no longer in operation.

As such, no utility services are active for the buildings and fire investigators are working to determine how the fire started. As the winter months fast approach and cooler temperatures arrive, the SFD typically responds to an increase in fire incidents at abandoned properties.
