It’s always tough to learn about a local restaurant closing for good. And this one hits home because it’s a business I liked to visit every now and then. In fact, I wonder why I didn’t go more often. Another Shreveport restaurant has shut the doors.

The Peking restaurant opened at the old Wendy’s location in Shreve City about 2 years ago. Wendy’s moved to a brand new location just a block away.

Why didn’t I go to Peking more often? I really can’t answer that. It was fast food Chinese and I never got anything that I would not eat. The Peking operation had a great menu. One of my favorites was the egg rolls. Now, I must admit I never went inside to eat. I always used the drive-thru. And I really didn’t see much traffic inside the business. That might have been the problem. Folks probably thought it was just a pick up and go spot.

I did find some of the healthiest Chinese food in the area. They used fresh ingredients and also used pure olive oil in preparation of many of the dishes.

What Were Some of the Best Dishes at Peking

My favorite was the Kung Pao Chicken, but I tried several other specialties including the General Sao’s chicken and the orange peel beef. Both of these were very good. One thing I was not a fan of at Peking was the fried rice. If I ordered the shrimp fried rice, it never had many shrimp in it. So I stopped ordering it. But I really did like the egg rolls and would often make a meal of that.

I think one of the big problems for Peking was having Ming Garden almost right across the street. If I wanted Chinese food for lunch with friends, I would always opt for Ming rather than Peking. And I really don’t know why. It’s just somewhere that I am comfortable. And Ming Garden has been there for years.
