A Mansfield man will be spending the rest of his life behind bars. 37-year-old Stephen Rivers has pled guilty to two counts of first-degree murder for fatally stabbing his estranged wife and her sister back in August of 2010. Originally, District Attorney Richard Johnson had planned to seek the death penalty. However, he says the victims' family urged him to allow Rivers to plead to the life sentences. He says the family did not want to see the young children who witnessed the events of that night have to be forced to testify at trial. Rivers will not be eligible for probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
