The 2022 Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl is set for Friday December 23rd in Shreveport. The game is one of the longest running bowl games in college football.

This year's game was the second that was supposed to feature the team from Army West Point, but its the second time in their agreement that Army will not be able to come to Shreveport. The first time Army was supposed to come to Shreveport was in 2020, but all other teams that were eligible to come backed out of the game. This year, Army does not have enough wins to qualify as bowl eligible.

Without the Army half of the game, the Independence Bowl needed to look outside of their standard agreement for this year. They have their agreement with the American Athletic Conference still in place, but will need to find another team. Good news is just a few weeks ago, the I Bowl came to a new backup agreement with Sun Belt Conference. Which will come into play this year.

The team from the American Athletic Conference who will be coming to the Indy Bowl is the Houston Cougars.

The Cougars are 7-5 on the season, with wins over UTSA, Memphis, East Carolina, and Navy. Their loses include a 3-point loss at Texas Tech and one of the highest scoring games of all time, losing 77-63 to SMU. That game set an NCAA record for highest scoring total between two teams in regulation. In other words, Houston can score.

The I-Bowl will activate their new backup agreement, and bring in a team from the Sun Belt Conference for only the second time ever.

The University of Louisiana - Lafayette Ragin Cajuns will be coming to Shreveport's bowl game for the first time ever. This is actually a pretty big deal.

The Ragin Cajuns are on a 4-year bowl streak, and have gone to bowls in 9 of the last 12 seasons. They're also on a 3-bowl winning streak going into this year. They are one of the most successful bowl teams in the Sun Belt.

The Cajuns are 6-6 on the season, and their biggest win of the year would probably be the Marshall victory. They beat the Thundering Herd 23-13 back in October. It was Marshall's first home game in the Sun Belt Conference, and it was spoiled by the Ragin Cajuns.
