Proposal Made to Improve LSUS

Instead of merging LSU-Shreveport and Louisiana Tech -- and moving LSUS to the University of Louisiana System -- the president of the LSU System has put forth another idea.  Doctor John Lombardi is proposing shifting Tech to the LSU System and creating an alliance of public and private universities, community colleges, and technical schools in northwest Louisiana.  It would be called the Northwest Louisiana Initiative.  Lombardi has told the Times Editorial Board that the plan is aimed at adopting a regional approach to education while responding to the need for additional degree programs in the Shreveport/Bossier area.
