Things are getting pretty crazy with the Powerball jackpot. The top prize has been growing since September. I was pretty sure there would be a winner this week, but it hasn't happened.

How Big Is Powerball Prize

The jackpot has now climbed to $1 billion dollars. That's $1,000,000,000! That's a lot of zeroes. And that's a lot of cash. But you won't get a full billion. If you take the one time, lump sum payout, you'll get $461 million. But you also have to pay taxes on that. So take about 1/3 away for the tax man and that will leave you with $308 million.

If you know me, you know I am convinced I am going to win one of these huge jackpots one day. I even do a little real estate shopping when the big prizes start climbing above $100 million. Don't get me wrong, I know it makes me sound a little cuckoo, but that's ok. I probably am.

What Folks Dream About Buying with Lottery Winnings

I dream of buying a penthouse condo on the beach. It's great to dream about sitting on a balcony listening to the waves while drinking a glass of wine. That's truly my happy place. But I would also buy wonderful things for my children and close friends.

I'm probably going to buy a flashy sports car and a nice SUV of some sort. I'll also take care of my brothers. Whatever they need, they will get.

Who Gets Cash if You Win the Big Jackpot

It's common knowledge among my friends and co-workers that I have a list of people who will get a cool million dollars. No questions asked. You've been a big part of my life and I will reward you. Those on the list know who they are.

I keep track of the biggest jackpots in history and this latest Powerball prize is the 14th biggest of all time.
