Portion of State Highway Closed

Work on a section of a major highway project has resulted in the closure of a heavily-traveled section of one state highway.  State highway officials have closed Louisiana Highway 538 -- between US Highway 71 and Louisiana Highway One. They say it will be closed for about fourteen months. Detour signs have been posted on both Highways 1 and 71. The reason for the closure -- construction on the long-awaited I-49 North extention! When completed, I-49 North in Louisiana will stretch from I-220 all the way to the Arkansas line. Again, that closure is expected to last about 14 months.
