Another Pedestrian Hit by Car on I-20 in Shreveport
Yet another case of a person walking in the middle of the interstate.
Friday evening Shreveport Police got a call about a woman walking in the middle of I-20 near Hearne Avenue. While SPD was on the way to help the woman out of traffic, she was unfortunately hit by the side mirror of a passing car.
The woman was critically hurt, and was rushed to a hospital. The woman remains in serious condition as a result of her injuries.
Shreveport Police wants the public to understand that no interstate is designed for pedestrians. SPD says whether you're on the road or on the shoulder, the risk of being hit by a vehicle is much higher on the interstate. SPD says it's also illegal to walk near or on the interstate.
From SPD:
"We ask for the community’s help in preventing these senseless and avoidable incidents. If you see someone walking on the interstate, please contact police immediately. If you experience car trouble on the interstate, stay inside your vehicle and call for assistance. Together, we can work to keep everyone safe."
