Shreveport’s Call to Action: Donate Peanut Butter, Fight Hunger
During the summer months, donations to the food bank in Shreveport typically decline. Folks are traveling and having fun on vacation and the regular donations fall off a bit. But the need for food in our community does not change. The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana tries to meet this need, but that depends on donations from local residents.
The Food Bank is holding a very special drive over the next couple of weeks to restock the shelves. But they are asking for a specific item from you. They want peanut butter. The Food Bank has teamed up with Kroger to try to bring in hundreds of jars of peanut butter.
You can donate at any Kroger store in Shreveport or Bossier City until June 17. This peanut butter will benefit the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana and East Texas Food Banks.
Your best way to donate is to add a jar of peanut butter to your shopping cart when you are doing your grocery shopping. You can then drop it off at the bin in the front of the stores. It's ok if you are not a Kroger shopper. You can run in the store and drop a jar off anytime the Kroger stores are open.
Why a Peanut Butter Drive in Shreveport?
Peanut butter is one of the most requested items at food banks all across the area. It is a great source of protein and it has a long shelf life. Peanut butter does not have to be stored in the fridge.
Data from the Food Bank shows that Louisiana and Texas are both
Above the national average for people and families facing food insecurity, but for as little as $1.49 after a Kroger digital coupon, shoppers can donate a 16-ounce jar of Kroger Peanut Butter to provide a nourishing protein for their neighbors in need.
Kroger Company exec Rudy DiPietro says
“Shelf-stable proteins such as peanut butter play a crucial role in supporting our community in the battle against food insecurity. As part of our Zero Hunger | Zero Waste social and environmental impact plan, we are pleased to launch this Peanut Butter Food Drive and look forward to helping our food bank partners restock their inventory.”

Kroger is one of the largest grocery chains in the nation and they donated more than 4 million pounds of food in 2024 nationwide to Food Banks and they have pledged to chip in more than $5 million in donations each year to help fight hunger across the country.
