Buying a car can be one of the most exciting things you do. Shopping online for just the right vehicle, heading to the dealership to test drive it, and taking it off the lot for the first time after buying it...these are all major highlights. But at the same time, buying a car can be extremely stressful too.

The stresses of buying a car have been growing since the pandemic.

Inventory constraints, inflation, staffing, supply chain issues, and more ripple effects have brought dread to the car buying experience. Car dealers have also been dealing with an increase of difficulties too. One of those major challenges is the expanding ability to sell cars online.

While no one expects all car dealerships to dry up, but online car sales are making a big impact when it comes to local dealerships.

There are a ton of sites online that have popped up to sell cars to buyers. These sites post all of the same information you can find on a local dealer's website, but instead of having a physical dealership, these online retailers can just deliver your new car directly to you. Which brings us to this outdated law that isn't helping Louisiana car dealerships.

Did you know its against the law for a car dealership to sell you a car on a Sunday in Louisiana?

That's right, if you wanted to head to the dealership to get a car on a Sunday, you wouldn't be able to in Louisiana. Which is a bit of a head scratcher in 2023. Louisiana isn't alone though, there are multiple other states who have the same law in place, even though some are trying to update their car sales laws to modern times.

If you have a standard Monday through Friday schedule, you likely only have the weekend to tackle something like buying a car. But many people have to cram a lot into their weekend already. So if you have any kind of extra curriculars that you do on Saturdays (kids sports, family events, social groups), and only have Sunday to get something like this done, you're just out of luck in Louisiana. Because you can't legally buy a car on Sunday...unless you're doing it online of course.

So if Louisiana car dealers want to compete with online car sales, they better work to get these outdated laws off the books.
