Get Ready Louisiana: One Last Cold Snap Before Spring
Technically, it's still winter. The first day of spring isn't for another two days. We've certainly been enjoying spring-like weather for a few weeks now, but don't put that jacket away just yet. Or if you have, you will want to get it back out.... for at least a couple more nights.
Official First Day of Spring
The official first day of spring this year is, March 20th, 2025. And as we all know, spring doesn't last very long here before it just runs slam into summer. There are precious few days like we're having right now where the temps are actually nice, and the humidity is surprisingly bearable.
Winter in the Arklatex is Making a Brief Comeback
But winter isn't letting go just yet. The next couple of nights is going to get back down to just down-right chilly. Tonight's low is expected to bottom out in the mid forties, but tomorrow night, Thursday, get ready for it to dip back down into the 30's. Yup.. hope you still have a little firewood left as we'll experience a night-time low of about 37 degrees.
Fortunately, (or unfortunately, depending on how you're looking at it), the cold-snap won't be around for long, as lows will get back to more of the 50's & 60's. But for those of us who like the cooler temps, it's going to be nice!
Some people will point out that there's always a late frost around or just before Easter, but, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac, it doesn't look like that will happen this year. They are predicting:
The Deep South will have normal temperatures in April but warmer-than-normal temps in May. It will be wetter than usual overall, particularly in the southern areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Above-average temperatures will persist through the summer
Too bad it won't get cold enough for long enough to kill more mosquitos.
