Northeastern U.S. Braces for Winter Snowstorm Nemo [VIDEO]

Snow is falling across the Northeastern portion of the U.S. today and Americans are getting ready what could be a gigantic historic blizzard. Winter snowstorm Nemo could dump up to 3 feet of snow from New York City to Boston and beyond.

Hurricane-force winds are also expected along the coast with heavy snow, power failures, flooding and wind gusts up to 75 mph.

There are blizzard warnings for New Jersey, Long Island in New York, parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut and extending into New Hampshire and Maine.

Alan Dunham, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass., said, "This is going to be a dangerous winter storm, wherever you need to get to, get there by Friday afternoon and don't plan on leaving."

Meteorologist Matt Alto at AccuWeather. com said, "The merging of two storms, an Alberta Clipper from the west and a storm from the south, will bring tremendous snow and damaging winds to many locations throughout the Northeast."

According to FlightAware.com, airlines have cancelled 3,775 flights through Saturday in preparation for the blizzard.

The three main airports in New York City plan to cease operations between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. today, resuming after noon on Saturday. Most airlines at Boston's Logan airport will cease operations between noon and 4 p.m., today and restart Saturday afternoon. There are delays on inbound flights of 1.5 hours due to low clouds at Philadelphia International Airport.

This snowstorm could be among the top 10 snowstorms in history, maybe even breaking Boston's record of 27.6 inches, set ten years ago in 2003.
