Man Convicted of Molestation of a Juvenile in Caddo Court
A Keithville man was convicted on 2 counts of Molestation of a Juvenile under 13.
Six witnesses took the stand to speak against 64 year-old David Wilson Waters. The witnesses were able to convince the jury that Waters was guilty of molesting 2 girls who were 7 and 8 years-old in 2016 and 2017. The girls were related to a woman who Waters knew. One of the victims told a close family member who did not report the crime to Police. Since the crime was not reported, the child thought nothing would ever come of this incident. This victim also thought that the following interview at Gingerbread House would not bring Waters to justice.
Another victim told a counselor in 2018 about the abuse that took place with Waters. The counselor took the stand to testify at the trial, and the case was based almost exclusively on testimony.
When Waters took the stand, he claimed that he was never alone with the children despite living with them for an extended time. A woman also took the stand and claimed that the children were lying for financial reasons, but neither could prove the inconsistencies under cross-examination.
It took the jury under an hour to come back with the guilty conviction.
Waters is facing 25 to 99 years in prison in his upcoming sentencing trial in Caddo District Court.
