Minden is home this weekend to the Fasching (fah'-shing) Fifth Season Festival. Fasching is German Mardi Gras and the fun begins today. It runs all the way through Ash Wednesday. Minden Downtown Development Director Pattie Odom tells us Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne will be on hand to kick things off at 11:11 this morning. Besides the music, food, arts and crafts, and other activities today and tomorrow, the switch will be thrown at dusk this evening to turn on Minden's Christmas lights -- making it the first city on the new Holiday Trail of Lights to illuminate. Festivities continue tomorrow with the addition of the Minden Ghost Walk from noon until three at the Old Minden Cemetery and shuttles running on a regular basis to and from the Germantown Colony north of Minden between ten and one. At dusk tomorrow, the sky will come alive with a huge fireworks display.
