SHREVEPORT, LA-   Minibike Lands Man in Jail Following Police Pursuit

A man is in custody after attempting to flee from police on a minibike, resulting in a brief pursuit and multiple charges.

Just after midnight on August 14th, Shreveport Police officers attempted to stop a man on a mini bike at the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and Kennedy Street for multiple traffic violations. Initially, the man pulled over and appeared to comply with the stop. However, as officers approached the vehicle, the suspect suddenly fled on a 2019 KYMCO Spade minibike.

The suspect eventually lost control of the minibike near Monkhouse Drive, veered off the roadway, and attempted to flee on foot. After a short pursuit, officers apprehended the suspect and discovered drug paraphernalia in his possession.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Johnathon Melton, was treated at the scene by the Shreveport Fire Department and then arrested on the following charges:

- One count of aggravated flight from an officer

- One count of possession of drug paraphernalia

The minibike was also impounded.

The Shreveport Police Department would like to remind the public that all vehicles operating on public roadways must be properly equipped and insured. Miniature bikes, ATVs, and four-wheelers are not designed for use on public streets and pose significant safety risks.  Our priority is to ensure the safety of all road users, and we will continue to enforce traffic laws to protect the community.
