Man Fights Shreveport Police: Loses
SHREVEPORT, LA- Shoplifting Incident Escalates to Violent Encounter for SPD Officer
A shoplifting incident turned violent on August 9th at approximately 5:00 p.m., when a Shreveport Police Officer was contacted at the Walmart located in the 1600 block of West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. The officer was contacted by the store manager, who reported that a male suspect was attempting to conceal items inside the store. The manager had already attempted to confront the suspect but was unsuccessful as the man was instantly confrontational.
Upon arrival, the officer attempted to stop the suspect, identified later as 50-year-old Brian Parker. However, Parker became combative, leading to a physical altercation. Despite multiple attempts to bring Parker to the ground, he continued to resist. The officer then deployed a department-issued taser, which was temporarily effective. However, Parker managed to break free and fled on foot.
The altercation continued into the parking lot, where two additional officers arrived on the scene and assisted in subduing Parker. He was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
Parker has been charged with one count of theft and one count of resisting an officer with force or violence. Thankfully, no officers were injured in the incident. The actions of the responding officers are commendable, as they successfully managed a volatile situation without harm to themselves or others.
