Man Arrested in Shreveport’s 87th Homicide for 2021
Shreveport Police have charged a man with an early December battery that led to the death of a senior citizen.
On December 4, 2021, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the 2000 block of Lakeshore Drive on reports of a battery. They arrived to find 72-year-old Namon Booker unconscious on the parking lot. The Shreveport Fire Department responded and transported the victim to the hospital with what was described as life-threatening injuries.
On December 18th detectives were notified that the man died as a result the injuries sustained on December 4.
Officers conducted an investigation on the night of the offense and learned through interviews with witnesses that 39 year-old Montrail Horton allegedly approached the man and punched him at least one time in the face causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete. The fall resulted in major head trauma.
Officers learned that the two men had allegedly lived together at one point and there was ongoing conflict between the two. Patrol officers digitally documented the scene and interviewed Horton. Following interviews, Horton was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of Second-Degree Battery. He was later taken to Caddo Correctional Center where he remains.
Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit procured a warrant upgrading the charges to Manslaughter. No bond was set.
