BATON ROUGE, LA - Things could be changing for LSU football in the near future. This is not a change to recruiting or the NIL program, but a scheduling change.

One Louisiana lawmaker wants to have a say about the scheduling of games. In fact, State Rep John Illg Jr. wants all games in September to be night games. Illg says games during the day in Tiger Stadium in September can be dangerous. He says it is often way too hot to be out in a huge crowd with temps in the 90's and the sun blistering down on tens of thousands of fans.

He points to problems from a daytime game last season in September when dozens of fans suffered heat-related illnesses.

Illg has introduced HCR 113, which urges the SEC to avoid scheduling LSU home games before 6 p.m. during the month of September. Illg says the move is aimed at protecting fans, players, and first responders from dangerous heat conditions.

“I don’t want to wait for it to become a problem for me to say, ‘I should’ve done something,’” Illg said.

The push comes after a hot 2:30 mid-afternoon game between LSU and UCLA last September when emergency crews responded to a high number of medical calls.

The Tigers open the season on August 30th at Clemson.

The home opener is against Louisiana Tech on September 6. The time for this game has not yet been announced. LSU also has 2 other home games in September this year:

September 13 against the Florida Gators and September 20 against Southeastern.
