Louisiana’s Largest Locally Produced Comic Con is in Shreveport
It's been a good stretch if you're a fan of comic con events in Louisiana. When much of the country saw their comic con events go away during the pandemic shutdowns and never return, many of the Louisiana's comic con style events have returned better than ever.
In fact, Louisiana saw their biggest comic con event debut after the pandemic lockdowns. While many state's were losing these type of events, Fan Expo New Orleans debuted in 2022, and has been bringing major level shows to the state every year since.
One of the best locally produced comic con events has been churning out great shows post-pandemic in Southeastern Louisiana too. The legendary CyPhaCon has put together great show after great show, and they're getting ready to do it again. But they have been around much longer than Fan Expo, with their first event being held all the way back in 2011.
When we describe CyPhaCon as "locally produced", it means that the people who plan and execute the event live in the Lake Charles area. Unlike an event like Fan Expo, where the staff and producers are all from other states, and fly in to put the show on every year.
In north Louisiana, Geek'd Con returned in 2021, and has continued to grow. Coming off the pandemic, the event returned with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Alice Cooper topping the lineup. The event has brought a mini-Scream reunion, and massive View Askew reunion to Shreveport post-pandemic. Geek'd Con is another event that started before the lockdowns, starting up in 2015.
Now, Fan Expo is the biggest comic con style event in the state, and CyPhaCon is the best locally produced event in the state, but Geek'd Con is actually a cross-section of the two. Geek'd Con draws a large audience every year, and is also locally produced, being put together by residents in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
Research shows Geek'd Con generates an annual economic impact for the Shreveport-Bossier area of over $2 million. Meaning the event has generated an estimated economic impact over $15 million since its start.
With the big economic impact, and giant stars coming to Shreveport for Geek'd Con, its easy to consider the event the largest locally produced comic con style event in the state of Louisiana.
