On Thursday morning April, 12, 2018 around 9:00 a.m. I was driving down I-49 and I counted 12, yes TWELVE different cars pulled over by State Troopers. I couldn't figure out what was happening and a friend of mine said "I saw so many on I-20 yesterday!" Finally I figured out what happened. LIDAR is a hand-held speed detection device that is utilized by our local law enforcement. A LIDAR was up in action on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 and on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

According to Glenn Younger with Louisiana State Police here are the results of the 6 hour long LIDAR (a hand-held speed detection device) detail on Tuesday April 10, 2018.

100- Speeding (all were in excess of 15 mph over the posted speed limit)
13- Drivers license
3- Seat belt
3- No insurance
3- Vehicle registration
1- Texting and driving
1- Warrant arrest

"In an effort to combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop G plans to conduct a sobriety / seat belt checkpoint on Saturday, April 14, 2018, from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Claiborne Parish. Our mission will be to find and remove impaired drivers from the road before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others. Additionally, we will be checking vehicles for unrestrained motorists in an effort to reduce the number of traffic related fatalities caused by not wearing a seat belt." said Glenn Younger. Clearly the State Troopers got a lot more than impaired drivers on Tuesday. I wonder what the numbers will look like from Thursday's operation. Follow all the traffic rules, wear your seat belt, make sure your car tags and insurance are up to date. You don't want to get pulled over this week or any other week for that matter.
