The proposal to give the Louisiana Rouxgaroux $32,500 in tax money from the Caddo Parish Commission is moving forward to the next meeting. After public outcry about this proposal, the item has generated lots of discussion.

It advanced to the Thursday agenda from the Monday work session on an 8-4 vote. Several commissioners said they just wanted to flesh out the details of this measure before taking final action in 2 weeks.

This information should be important to the Caddo Commission in deciding whether to fund $32,500 to the team this year.

KEEL News has learned that no other government entity in the region has been asked for public money by the team. And the Shreveport Bossier Tourist Convention’s Sports Commission, has reportedly refused to give the team any money.

The team plays games in Bossier at the Brookshire Grocery Arena. The pre-game and post-game team meals are provided by a Bossier restaurant near the Brookshires arena.

The team only has 4 home games left for this season.

The owner of the team says the $32,000 will be used for marketing the team to get more young people out to attend games.

The Commission has been told the team has 241 employees, but the roster is 25 and there are 10 coaches.

Many of the concerns about this request center on two major objections:

1. The team plays in Bossier and the team HQ is in Bossier

2. Should tax dollars be given to "for profit" businesses.

We will have to wait a couple of weeks to see if this proposal is approved.
