Louisiana Police Officer Shot During Traffic Stop Dies

Sad news to report from the law enforcement community today. A part-time north Louisiana police officer who was shot during a traffic stop in northeast Louisiana last month has died.

The News Star reports Mangham Police Chief Perry Fleming confirmed Marshall Waters’ death in a post on Facebook. Waters was shot in the lower abdomen, under his vest on October 17th during the traffic stop in Richland Parish.

Waters had stopped a vehicle on Louisiana Highway 425, near the Franklin and Richland parish line.

The alleged shooter is 27-year-old Hermandus Semien of Ville Platte. Semien was initially arrested on several charges, including attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. It was not immediately known whether the charges would be upgraded in light of Waters' death.

"It’s with great sadness and broken hearts that I, Chief Perry Fleming, and the Mangham Police Department have to inform you of the passing of Officer Marshall Waters PD3 who was shot in the line of duty on October 17, 2020. We ask that you please continue to pray for Marshall Waters family and the Mangham Police Department family during this time. RIP PD3," the Mangham Police Department shared Thursday on Facebook.
