Police are searching for the shooter responsible for killing a toddler late Thursday night. Shreveport Police received a shots fired call from the Canaan Village Apartments but when they arrived they couldn't find anyone on the scene to verify what happened.

A short time later, more shots were fired near the intersection of Buena Vista and Pierre. While police were investigating that area, a woman drove to the Shreveport Police Station to report her child had been shot. Officers say they received a call from the woman around 11:15 from outside the station. Paramedics responded, but the 4 year old boy had died from his wounds at the scene.

Police believe the 4 year old was shot during the violent encounter on Pierre Avenue. It's reported the child suffered a gunshot wound to the head when a gunman fired into the mother's car.

Police have not released the name of the child at this time. Detectives are searching this morning for clues and information to lead them to the child's killer.
